Plant Pink and Red Flowering Plants for Valentine's Day

Are you looking for a gardening project this Valentine's Day? Or maybe a unique gift idea? Choose from these red or pink flowering plants to add a bit of Valentine's Day to your yard.

Scarlet Hibiscus (Hibiscus coccineus)
A water-loving plant, this Hibiscus adds color and interest to any water garden, stormwater pond or lakefront. It loves full sun and is a Florida native plant.

Pentas (Pentas lanceolata)
Red Pentas attract butterflies in a sunny yard. They do well planted in containers and combined with other flowering plants.

Jatropha (Jatropha integerrima)
Jathropha is a small tree/large shrub that attracts butterflies. It has unusual shaped leaves that also add interest in the garden.

Salvia sp.
Salvia comes in many colors, including red and pink. Salvia is a drought-tolerant perennial or annual that is a great addition to a butterfly garden, cottage garden, or container planting.

Firecracker Plant (Russelia equisetiformis)
The blooms of the Firecracker Plant attract both hummingbirds and butterflies. This informal shrub is unique and easy to grow.

Verbena sp.
Grow Verbena in containers or in the ground. Both red and pink varieties are available.

Sunshine Mimosa (Mimosa strigillosa)
This Florida native groundcover is tough! Small pink powderpuff flowers make it attractive in any landscape.
Pentas (Pentas lanceolata)
Pink Pentas attract butterflies in sunny gardens. They are drought-tolerant and flower year-round.

Whirling Butterflies (Gaura lindheimeri)
The small pink blooms of this hardy plant are perfect for a container or landscape planting.

Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica)
Crape Myrtles range in size from large shrubs to large trees. Pink flowering varieties include 'Tuskegee', 'Miami', 'Seminole', 'Tuscarora', 'Potomac' and 'Tonto'.

Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)
Although it is called Purple Coneflower, the rosy blooms are more of a pink shade. This is a tough Florida native plant that blooms in the summer.
